Northcote Golf Course is famous as one of Melbourne’s cheapest and relaxing paths. Featuring well recognized and preserved, tree lined fairways with creeks running through and bordering combined with well bunkered greens, precision is vital. The Planning for your golf course goes a long way. In 1938 the afterward Northcote City Council bought crown property across the Merri Creek with a view to providing recreational amenities across the front. A couple of years after they bought 24 acres from James Brown’s Croft Bank Dairy straight behind the today 6th tee. This culmination of older dairy land, crown land and a part of an old rubbish tip is exactly what we all now know as the Northcote Golf Course.

In 1960 the Council contracted Sam Berriman to style a 9 hole course on the property. In addition, he spent several years as Curator of Huntingdale.

The Club would fit beneath the porch of the Pro Shop on Saturday mornings because of their weekly around. An approach was made to the Council to create a Clubhouse and the application was denied and during persistence approval was finally given.

On 10/8/66 Council approved the construction of a Clubhouse made by Mr Ron Crocker.

150 members paid a $10.00 levy along with a joining fee was released to help pay for the construction price. The Clubhouse was constructed on the current site and started from the suitably named Mayor of Northcote Cr. The Clubhouse was expanded to its present size in 1985 and provides a contemporary centre for the own members.

To also establish Northcote was a traditional working class area in these days, the brand new Clubhouse was broken up into the evening before the official launch. But in authentic Northcote fashion, the series went on. Life Membership was granted to O.B.”Bruce” Smith for his work in establishing the Club as well as President.

The Club plays contest every Saturday morning starting at 6.30 a.m. or in first light following this moment. Guests using a formal Australian disability are welcome to perform at almost any Saturday contest – please call 9484 6961 as reservations are essential to play the Club.
