Brunswick Baths
The Brunswick Baths complicated is of local architectural and historical Significance. The bathrooms have been a crucial recreational focus on Brunswick, and has been for several years host to the swimming pool championships. The Baths represented the most up-to-date in swimming pool design and technologies, and was formerly thought of as the very best complex of its kind in Australia.
The renovation of the Baths in 1927-in certain the Building of the prominent Dawson Street facade- reflects a period of Substantial redevelopment of Brunswick’s public resources, also of the reshaping of their civic precinct in Sydney Road and Dawson Street
The construction was created in 1913 by design company Peck & Kemter and constructed in 1914. The Baths were revived in 1927 and between 2011 and 2013.

The first Brunswick Baths started in 1914 but the construction we could still see now on Dawson Street was started in November 1929, a year or so after the foundation stone was set (which remains visible). They had been constructed on the website of what was formerly a pound for straying cattle and other livestock, which maybe shows how near the border of town Brunswick formerly was.
Mixed bathing immediately became popular (in spite of opposition from the Mayor who reckoned that it would mean ‘stout’ people like himself being mocked – though quite what that has to with gender is anyone’s guess…), and it led to a number of clashes with the Catholic Church, more about which is under.
The federal swimming championships were held in Brunswick Baths at 1932. 2,600 individuals were there to see Andrew’Boy’ Charlton win 1 race. His title is significantly less admired in Melbourne than Sydney nowadays, possibly, we convinced that he was a significant crowd-puller back afterward, and it was his first swim in Melbourne, apparently.
The Brunswick Baths construction is two-storey rendered brick construction with a hipped tiled roof. The multi-paned steel-framed windows, that sit wide piers, have a combo of hopper and awning openings. The fundamental rendered prostyle portico includes four piers along with also a slightly projecting parapet having a moulded frieze. Key Architectural Components: 2 storey construction with Classical Revival facade with fundamental prostyle porticopaired pilasters separating banks of multi-paned steel-framed windows face dark brownish brick plinth
