Merri Creek Primary School
Merri Creek Primary School is located in Fitzroy North on the banks the Merri Creek. It has a 430-450 student enrolment. The School Council developed a new vision for the school in 2018 after consultation with the school community. They create a community that encourages students to thrive. They support one another as they learn, question, think, and discover together. They respect each other and contribute to the community and the wider global world by being respectful of one another.
This vision was created to connect elements of the school educationally and philosophically. The vision was developed through many meetings with various stakeholder groups over a number of years. It was determined that the school’s current students were not;

Merri Creek Primary School fosters respect by modeling the values of C.A.R.E. (Creativity Acceptance Respect and Efficient) and teaching it to their students.
In Year 5-6, students are organized in multi-age classes with Foundation, Year 1, 2, Year 3, Year 4, and Year 5. They plan to have single classes in Year 5 and 6 by 2023. Due to high enrollment numbers, they may need one multi-age class for Year 3/4 or 5/6.
The school is committed to student well-being and provides a supportive and positive environment for students. Respect for other people’s rights to learn in a safe and supportive environment is a result of a consistent school-wide approach to student behavior.
High academic achievement in literacy and numeracy is a hallmark of the school. The school’s highly-regarded visual and music programs are examples of the importance that Arts are given. Creativity in all areas is valued at the school. We also encourage acceptance of diversity and develop increasing levels of responsibility for learning and behaviour.
School-wide specialist lessons in Italian, Library, Visual Art, Music, and Library are available. The teaching program includes Physical Education.
Additional curricula activities include a school musical, school rock band assemblies, School of Rock performances and lunchtime chess clubs, Year 5/6 market days, interschool sport and circus skills, yoga and choir, chess club and sustainability activities.
The school facilities can be divided into two types of buildings: ground and double-storey, or modular. The administration and staff areas are housed in the main building. There are also classrooms and other general-purpose spaces. Strategically, the year levels are located near one another.
There are many areas for active and passive play, as well as a range adventure playground equipment and general play courts.
